I SAW A WEDNESDAY'S CHILD I'M INTERESTRED IN. WHAT DO I DO NEXT?

Click on Interest Form at the top of any page on this site. Then select the form for families who do or do not have a homestudy. Fill out the form online, including the child's name and ID number.

If you do not have a homestudy, use the form to ask for a free information packet by email and for a list of agencies in your state. Click on Submit.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN AFTER I SUBMIT THE INTEREST FORM?

A pop-up window will appear to tell you what your next steps will be. You may right-click on the pop-up window and print it for future reference.

  • If you have a current homestudy, and you listed a child's name and ID number, your information will be sent to the Wednesday's Child program in the child's city. A social worker from the child's city will contact you within 2 business days. Your information will also be forwarded to an adoption specialist from your state, who may contact you with more information and resources specific to your local area.
  • If you do not have a homestudy, but live in or near a Wednesday's Child city, your information will be sent to the Wednesday's Child program near you. A social worker will contact you to help you get started in the homestudy process with an agency near you. Your information will also be forwarded to an adoption specialist from your state, who may contact you with more information and resources specific to your local area.
  • If you do not have a homestudy, and you requested an information packet, you will receive an email with information on getting started in adoption, and a second email with a list of agencies in your state. Use the list to find an agency where you can complete the homestudy (approval) process. Your information will be forwarded to an adoption specialist from your state, who may contact you with more information and resources specific to your local area. You will not receive more information about a child until your homestudy is complete.

I TRIED TO SUBMIT THE INTEREST FORM AND COULDN'T. HOW DO I MAKE IT WORK?

Security settings on your computer may be causing the problem. On your computer, you must have cookies enabled in order to submit the form. The Interest Form appears as a pop-up window. If you have software on your computer that blocks pop-up windows, you will not be able to see the form. Please check your software settings and try again.

I FILLED OUT THE INTEREST FORM. WHY HAS NOBODY CALLED ME?

A Wednesday's Child Worker WILL contact you (by phone, email, or US mail) if

  • You have a current homestudy; you listed your agency name and phone number on the form; and you mentioned interest in a specific child; or
  • You do not have a homestudy, but live in or near a Wednesday's Child city.

A Wednesday's Child worker will NOT contact you if

  • You have a homestudy but did not mention a specific child on the form; or
  • You do not have a homestudy and do not live in or close to a Wednesday's Child city.

Not everyone who fills out an interest form will receive a call. If you do not yet have a study or do not live in or near a Wednesday's Child city, you can still adopt a Wednesday's Child, though it may take some time. Use the list of agencies in your state that came with your information packet to find your own agency and get started with the adoption process!

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ADOPT A WEDNESDAY'S CHILD?

It is not costly to adopt children from the U.S. foster care system, such as those who appear on the Wednesday's Child television features and website. All of these children are in the care of public (city, state, or county) agencies here in the United States, which do not charge families to adopt the children.

A family may work with a public or a private agency to complete the adoption homestudy (approval) process. Private agencies usually do charge fees, which may vary considerably, while public agencies generally do not. Both types of agencies can prepare a family for a successful adoption.

Even with a public agency, there will be some expenses in the adoption process. Families may have to pay for copies of required documents, such as their own birth certificates. All agencies require a criminal history clearance and a child abuse clearance, for which there are small fees. And all adoptions must be finalized in court, so there will be modest attorney fees.

Nearly all waiting children are eligible for state or federal financial adoption assistance (subsidy) and medical assistance, which continue until they are 18 years old.

I SAW A CHILD ON TV WHO IS NOT ON THE SITE. HOW DO I FIND OUT MORE?

Children shown on this website are from 5 cities where the Freddie Mac Foundation sponsors Wednesday's Child television features: Atlanta, Los Angeles New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.

  • If you saw the child very recently in one of these 5 cities, the child should be added to the website shortly. Adding a child to the site is sometimes delayed due to technical problems. Check back in a few days.
  • If you saw the child several weeks or months ago in one of the 5 cities, the child may have been removed from the website because a family has been selected.
  • If you saw the child on a Wednesday's Child program in a different city, the child will not appear on this site. Please contact the television station where you saw the child for more information.
