We have always welcomed members of the LGBT community. In fact, one of the first children for whom we helped create a family was placed with a lesbian in West Virginia. Since that time, the Center has continued to work with gay men and lesbians interested in adopting children from the foster care system. We have been awarded the All Children All Families: ACAF Agency Seal of Recognition for our cultural competence.
The Center has implemented a public awareness/education campaign directed to the LGBT community. The free booklet, A Guide to LGBT Adoption, addressing some of the concerns of this community is available.
We also hold Adoption Cafes specifically for the LGBT community. Here you will meet and hear from other members of the LGBT community who have adopted, adoption agencies ready to work with you and learn the basics of adopting from foster care.
