LGBT Community Members Encouraged to Adopt

The Center has launched the first program in the Delaware Valley to encourage members of the LGBT community to consider adoption and to connect them with welcoming adoption agencies. The new National Adoption Center-LGBT Task Force will inform and assist in implementing the initiative.

The program, funded by the Wachovia Foundation, has the following goals:

  • Expand the pool of potential permanent families in the LGBT community
  • Develop competent services for LGBT prospective families

The Center is program includes a public awareness/education campaign directed to the LGBT community and a collaboration with adoption agencies to improve their competence in serving those interested in adopting from the foster care system.

As part of its LGBT outreach program, the Center, in collaboration with the Sapphire Fund and the Delaware Valley Legacy Fund, orchestrated a forum at which members of the community learned about the children who wait for families and adoption process.
